The Fire

An article from the “Merlin” dated 26th November 1831
Sadly, at the end of Ann’s life a fire consumed the cottage in which she and John Rosser were living.
The reader should note that there is a degree of misinformation in the public domain regarding this fire and its consequences.
Firstly it is incorrectly reported that this fire took place on 11th March 1831 (and in one place as 1830). However, I can confirm that the article is from an edition of this newspaper of 26th November 1831 and the text, therefore, clearly notes that the fire took place on 11th November 1831.
It is also circulating the public domain that John Rosser died shortly after this fire, and in one place that Ann lived on for a further two years. Neither statement appears to be true. In the case of John Rosser I have been unable to find a death or burial date for him and the article does not infer that he died as a result of the fire. However, in the case of Ann, herself, she died on 2nd January 1832, less than two months following the fire.
