Gravestone

Ann’s Gravestone

Ann’s gravestone was initially at the head of her grave near to the chapel door at its left. However, at some point it broke off and is now mounted on the wall to the left of the door.

As the text is hard to read I provide, below, a drawing that is on the back of the booklet published to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the chapel.

Interestingly, two errors occur in nearly all quotations given for the wording on the gravestone. One refers to the line “Because to Memory dear” which is invariably quoted as “Because of Memory dear”. The second refers to the last line where it can be seen the the word we spell as “divinely” is spelt as “devinely”.
